Workflow changes
As I said in a post on the front page of the website, I am now working full time in my studio. Well, I guess full time isn't completely accurate since I'm in and out a lot (for photo shoots, client meetings, etc.). It would be more accurate to say that I am a full-time outwardly employed designer, since I do almost no actual design work at home any more.
The only problem with working outside the house is that I haven't worked a 40-hour week in a very long time so I either have to put in LOTS of hours outside of the house or I end up not getting as much done as I wanted to. What I need to do is define the tasks that are most easily portable and take care of them at home in the evenings or on weekends. For example, I need to do some invoicing, but instead of spending the time doing it yesterday at the studio, I am sitting here on a dreary Saturday morning getting my invoices together. (Author's note: when I say that I'm getting the invoices together, it's more of an in-theory thing since I'm writing here instead of actually doing the invoices.)
It's going to be a fun weekend. My mom and brother are coming to town for the weekend so I will get to show off the painting that we've done around the house as well as the new studio. And then later today, we are all heading to the casino with a bunch of family folks to celebrate my cousin's birthday. Tomorrow is a noon brunch for my grandma on the other side of the family--she's 90 years old!
And somehow in between all of the betting, gambling and whatnot (Author's note: whatnot means beer) I have to draw some new maps for Bay Regional Medical Center, work on a trade show display for Dow Chemical, begin writing an article for Interlude Magazine and develop player pages for the Saginaw Spirit program.
These are busy times, my friends.
